The mental benefits of building a regular training schedule

You never regret a workout.

At least that’s what I try telling myself every time I’m feeling unmotivated to get my ass to the gym.

Fortunately, past-me knows what’s up and whenever I finish a session, I come out glowing. Sweat or endorphins, whatever the reason is for the glow, I just know that I feel like a different person after a good lift.

Besides the positive uplift in my mood and energy, there’s a host of other benefits that keeps me coming back to the gym and training consistently every week.

Teaches you Discipline

Training teaches you how to be disciplined. It’s a reality check — treat the weights and the exercises with respect or have your ego humbled by the challenge.

Progress and gains require consistent effort, sustained over time. There’s no quick shortcuts unfortunately but that’s the beauty of training. It’s an action that requires you to be disciplined and intentional in your approach.

By shifting your perspective to focus on being disciplined in your training, you minimise the risk of injury and develop resilience that you can harness in everything else in life.
