I admire sales people.

There’s a level of tenacity and resilience in their approach that defines the best of them. They’re the engines of the organisation — their drive can fuel how far a company can grow.

But they can also be some of the most challenging people in a workplace to deal with.

Everything MUST bend to their will in their pursuit of a deal. Tasks can become very ad hoc day-to-day in an instant. And without an understanding of how they operate, you can find yourself butting heads very quickly over even the slightest bit of inconvenience.

It’s definitely not for everyone and I never expected this to be my career specialty, but having worked operationally in sales teams over the past 5 years, I’ve come to learn a lot of different things from how transformational decisions are made to how to work collaboratively with different people.

Here’s what I’ve taken away so far from working directly with sales people behind-the-scenes.
